Pokémon TCG: The best cards from the Paldea Evolved expansion

The Pokémon Trading Card Game has released a new expansion with some brand new cards that are must-haves for players and collectors alike. This week, The Pokémon Company officially released “Paldea Evolved,” one of its largest expansions to date. With 279 cards, including nearly ninety secret rare cards, collectors will have to do some serious digging if they want to get a full collection. So, which cards should you be looking for when you open booster packs? Luckily, we’re here to share what will likely be the most sought-after cards, along with what they might sell for if you’re lucky.

Tinkaton ex (Special rare illustration)

Tinkaton Ex is a bit of an odd card, as its non-secret rare card counterpart is part of the deck. Instead, the card will be part of an upcoming Battle Deck release. This is another intriguing card with an attack that can bypass resistance and ability reductions and an attack that scales based on the number of cards in your hand.

Boss's Orders (Rare Special Illustration)

Boss's Orders is a basic support card that allows you to enter for free for one turn without paying a retreat cost. This card keeps Boss's Orders in rotation for another two years. Like other basic Trainer cards, the rare Secret Illustration card is a hot item simply because so many players plan to use it in their decks.

Tyranitar (Rare Illustration)

Tyranitar is a powerful Dark-type card with the potential to deliver some strong attacks for a low amount of Energy. While Stage 2 Pokémon often take too long to set up in the modern metagame, it's hard to ignore a heavyweight Pokémon that only costs one Prize. Like most of the cards on this list, this is an Enlightenment Rare card that is widely regarded as one of the best cards on the list.

Dendra (Rare Secret Illustration)

Dendra is one of the best support cards in the deck, mainly because it allows a player to quickly draw up to five cards without having to technically discard any. This will be a card that can be used in any competitive deck, so its market value is constantly increasing.

Chien-Pao ex (Rare Secret Illustration)

Chien-Pao is one of the strongest cards in the new set, largely due to its Chill Ability. Chill allows a player to quickly gain Water Energy from their deck. When combined with other Pokémon's Abilities, this is a useful card for setting up an entire deck in just a few turns. It also helps that Chien-Pao's Secret Illustration ex is one of the most dynamic in the set, which helps explain why it's one of the best cards in the deck.

Market price: $32.09

Magikarp (Rare Illustration)

Magikarp isn't a particularly powerful card, but the Illustration Rare variant is still one of the best cards in the set, largely due to its beautiful design. At least this card can be used with the Gyarados ex card that was released in the Scarlet & Violet set a few months ago, but it's expected to be a chase card that goes straight into a folder.

Iono (full drawing)

Iono is a rare "waifu" card that serves a practical purpose in many decks. It can quickly disrupt an opponent's plans by forcing them to put their entire hand on the bottom of the deck, which is useful given the number of cards that allow a player to gain energy or put Pokémon cards from their deck into their hands. Hopefully, Iono will become a standard in many decks in the coming years.

Iono (Rare Secret Illustration)

The most expensive card from Paldea Evolved and it’s not even close. This card was so popular that it caused the Japanese set it was featured in to sell out and forced Creatures Inc. to move the set to a print-on-demand model, something that had never happened before. This could be the most expensive card to hit the market in 2023, depending on how Pokémon Card 151 is released.

Market price: 106.63 eur.
